The Commish and The Commissioner

I just finished a seminal day in my very young career as a journalists...

I just got off the phone with Commissioner Stern. Wasn't a long conversation, maybe 10 minutes. But I spoke to the big dude and I told him I might be a thorn in his side one day, so remember this collegial conversation we just had.

we were talkin about the NBADL. you know Stern is a marketing hawk, so anytime somebody shows interest in something like the WNBA or the NBADL, he's probably a lil more apt to give u 5 or 10 minutes, as opposed to if i had requested to speak to him about, say, Wally Sczerbiak's contract.

It was just surreal hearing that voice I love and hate on the other line. he was a cool dude though. engaging and candid.

one day, when I'm a huge star, i'll have the pull to get a 15 minute sit-down with him. that'll be nuts. i'll ask him questions like, "Why, Commissioner, do you vacililate between championing the youth movement and decrying it? And why, Sir, are you so opportunistic when it comes to my culture?"

Then I'll ask him if his favorite comedian is Larry David and if his favorite coach is Larry Brown. And if he looks at me funny, like, "It's because I'm Jewish isn't it?" I'll be like, "Well my favorite comedian is DL Hughley and my favorite coach is Swayne Casey."
